On June 29th 2024 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown Barbados, one team was in ecstasy and the other in complete agony. Such contrasting emotions tend to occur when a final of a major global tournament is played. The scenes were extraordinary as players from both India and South Africa were in tears. Rohit Sharma lying on the ground thanking the heavens, whilst David Miller looked distraught in the dressing room. Continue reading “The highs and lows of a T20 World Cup final”

Can T20 Cricket become enervating?
In life, no matter how many positives there are, the negatives are always inevitable. In the modern era of cricket, smashing sixes have increased exponentially. In the ongoing IPL taking place in India, the maximum number of sixes hit by the batters may comfortably be achieved. England’s all-rounder Sam Curran stated recently that cricket is turning into baseball. Surely any sport, including T20 cricket can become enervating under certain circumstances. Shamar Joseph: The Savior of Test Cricket
After twenty seven years of heart-break, the West Indies team produced one of their most significant victories ever on not just Australian soil, but in the history of Test Cricket to draw the series 1-1. Surely in the early hours of Sunday January 28th 2024, Shamar Joseph would not have been even pondering being on the famous Gabba ground, yet alone bowling his team to what was a sensational win for the ages. After a toe-crushing yorker from Mitchell Starc the evening before, surely it was all but over for Shamar Joseph. Cricket is such a funny game. West Indies deliver early Christmas gift
What another year in West Indies Cricket. After the regional team failed to qualify for the 2023 50 over World Cup in India a few months ago, they somehow managed to put back smiles on the faces of West Indian fans. For the first time ever having International Cricket at home in the Caribbean before Christmas, the West Indies achieved the double by claiming the ODI and T20I series against the England men’s team. The one consistent factor in both series was the sensational batting by Shai Hope. He ended the series in similar fashion to how it started, smashing a six in the fifth T20I. Unfortunately that proud winning record has dwindled significantly over the last two decades or so. One has to ponder why so? West Indies need a World-class spinner
It was a hard-fought series victory for the West Indies over the World’s number one ranked T20 team India. The series margin 3-2 in favor of the home team and it was a bit of fresh air for once. Captain Rovman Powell led from the front with his astute captaincy skills on the field. West Indies have now recorded back to back T20I series victories in the last 4 months. Perhaps this latest T20I series win can be the catalyst this young West Indies team needs going forward. After all, it has been a very disappointing last year or so having not qualified firstly for the 2022 T20 World Cup super 12 in Australia and more recently booted out of the 50 over World Cup taking place in India later this year. Having said all that, the West Indies desperately need a World-class spin bowler in white ball Cricket. Continue reading “West Indies need a World-class spinner”
